Cake anyone? Thatcham residents invited to support Macmillan Cancer charity coffee morning at retirement community
Thatcham residents are invited for coffee and cake at a retirement community to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The coffee morning will take place on Tuesday, September 24, between 11am and 1pm McCarthy Stone’s William House retirement complex, located on The Moors.
On the day, guests and homeowners will gather in the communal lounge for a brew and slice of cake while in the company of friends, family and staff.
Divisional marketing manager for McCarthy Stone Verity McKay said: “We are delighted to be inviting locals to William House to help raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
“It’s not only a fantastic opportunity to help promote the brilliant work that Macmillan do, but also to bring the community together and show people what life at a McCarthy Stone development is like.”
The event will be one of many Macmillan coffee mornings helping to raise vital funds to support the three million people living with cancer in the UK.

The first Macmillan coffee morning was held in 1990.
It has since evolved into one of the world’s biggest fundraising events.
In 2023, coffee mornings across the country raised more than £13m.
William House and McCarthy Stone’s adjacent retirement complex, Turner Place, are named after three Thatcham soldiers who were awarded the Victoria Cross.
Second lieutenant Alexander Buller Turner was killed in action in the First World War while serving in the Royal Berkshire Regiment.
His younger brother, lieutenant colonel Victor Buller Turner, served in The Rifle Brigade at the Second Battle of El Alamein during the Second World War.
And lance corporal William John House served in the Royal Berkshire Regiment during the Second Boer War.
He died in an apparent accident while cleaning his rifle years later.
