Calcot copper piping theft causes gas leak

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman, Lucy Billen, said police were called by Southern Gas at 27 minutes past midnight, to an empty property on Royal Avenue, and to aid in any possible evacuation of the area, after a strong smell of gas was reported.
Police were investigating the theft of copper piping from the property, which caused gas to leak.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS), Ellie Gray, said one pump from Tilehurst was called to the scene at 39 minutes past midnight.
Firefighters isolated the gas and water supplies, before ventilating the property with fans,
The fire service closed the incident at 1.29am.
