Calcot man to run non-stop for 13 days and nights

Ultramarathon 615 mile fundraiser for Berkshire children's hospice

A CALCOT man will test his endurance mettle on a non-stop, 13 day ultramarathon, when he sets off for Worcester on Saturday (May 28) to raise funds for a local children’s hospice.

Covéa Insurance’s business change manager, Paul Ali, will undertake Monarchs Way Ultra, the UK's longest non-stop ultra-marathon, comprising 615 miles in 13 days, to raise funds for the Reading-based insurance company’s partner charity, the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.

Despite having completed numerous ultramarathons, this is Mr Ali’s toughest challenge to date, he said:

“Taking part in a 615 mile continuous event is a huge undertaking and this will be one of the most challenging events I have ever attempted, particularly in view of the limited contact and support over such a long distance.”

The marathon demands 44 miles minimum are run each day, with no rest days or overnight stops, while travelling an historic footpath of the (approx) escape route taken by King Charles II in 1651 after defeat in the Battle of Worcester.

The Maidenhead based, Alexander Devine Hospice Service supports children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, with funds needed to build a Berkshire children’s hospice.
