Calcot Service Point to close today (Wednesday)

Closure brought forward

West Berkshire Council's Calcot Service Point will close its doors for the last time today (Wednesday).

The council decided to close the service point as part of its sweeping cuts to public services in order to find £17.5m this financial year.

The service point was scheduled to close on Friday, April 22 but the council announced today that unforeseen circumstances had brought the closure forward.

It will now close permanently at 4.30pm.

The council apologised for the sudden change and said that customer enquiries will continue to be handled at our Newbury offices via personal visit, telephone and e-mail and via the council's website.

The council said that the closure would save around £20,000 in the first year.

It said that a reduction in demand for face to face services had been compounded by withdrawing payment facilities; a primary reason for many people visiting the service point.
