Calvin Harris gig at Newbury Racecourse broke noise limit

A total of 10,500 racegoers turned out on one of the hottest days of the year for six competitive flat races, followed by a 90 minute DJ set by Scottish artist Calvin Harris on May 26.
However, not everyone enjoyed the show, with some angry residents complaining about the noise levels, which exceeded the noise limit of 65 decibels set by West Berkshire Council.
The district council has now confirmed that it received 17 complaints in relation to the concert, but Newbury Racecourse has said it would be "inappropriate" to comment at present.
Newbury Racecourse, which has had a number of meetings with the district council about the recent Calvin Harris concert, is expected to make a statement on the matter next week, according to spokeswoman for the racecourse, Kelly Hasbury.
Meanwhile, spokesman for West Berkshire Council, Keith Ulyatt said: “The noise exceeded the requested level for less than a minute of a 90 minute show, so it's important to look at that in perspective rather than talk about fines.
“We regularly talk to the racecourse ahead of their planned concerts and that will continue with the aim that there should be no grounds for complaints.
“The requested noise levels are set according to a code or practice.”
Female singer-songwriter and coach on BBC One’s talent show The Voice, Jessie J is expected to play at this year’s second Party in the Paddock at the racecourse on August 18.
