Newbury Cancer Care gets five-figure Christmas gift

A cancer charity has received a generous donation this Christmas.

Earlier this month, Newbury Building Society representatives Jane Bosher and Nicola King-Head presented Newbury Cancer Care with a cheque for £19,830.34 after a successful year of fundraising.

Employees from the society’s Newbury and Thatcham branches raise the funds through a range of activities.

Newbury branch manager Jane Bosher presented the cheque to Helen Milroy from Newbury Cancer Care in November.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to present this amazing cheque to Newbury Cancer Care.

“We have worked closely with the charity for years, and this year we were able to raise a fantastic total through a number of fundraising initiatives, including our popular coffee and cake competition.

“I’d like to thank my team who have worked really hard this year, as well as our members for their generosity.

“We are already planning activities for 2024 and thinking about what else we can do to support this charity, who are so close to so many hearts within our local community.”

The branch team also raised funds to produce several ‘self-care bags’ for patients undergoing chemotherapy locally.

Each bag contained items such as socks, puzzle books and mints to help mouth dryness often caused by the treatment.

And savings members of the society can also select one of 10 charity partners to support, including Newbury Cancer Care, when they open a charity account.

Each year, the building society donates a portion of interest to the selected charities.
