Candidates for Purley by-election confirmed

The by-election is to take place on Wednesday, January 28, to fill the vacant Purley seat at the district council.
The candidates are as follows:
Burghfield Common resident, Catherine Maria Anderson (UKIP)
Theale resident, Steve Bown (Lib Dem)
Purley resident, Rick Jones (Conservative)
Pangbourne resident, Ian Stevens (Labour)
Nominations for candidates closed on December 31.
Polling cards will be sent to residents in Purley in the coming days, including information on polling stations.
Mr Betts, who had been a Conservative member of West Berkshire Council since 2007 and had previously been the executive member for highways and transport, lost his battle with cancer in October after contracting pneumonia.
Dozens of his council colleagues, from both political parties, paid tribute to Mr Betts at a public meeting held soon after his death, describing him as “diligent, passionate and dedicated”.
