Car fire at Headley Ford suspected arson




Empty vehicle destroyed in blaze

A CAR fire at Headley Ford last night (Tues) was put down to a suspected arson.

One fire engine from Newbury Fire Station was called at 9.35pm to Thornford Road, on the West Berkshire approach to the ford, which straddles the county border.

Firefighters found an empty small red car fully alight, with debris in the surrounding road.

Petrol from a ruptured fuel tank was running down the road and the blaze had set surrounding bushes alight.

The blaze was extinguished by firefighters using hosereels.

No-one was hurt.

The car was destroyed in the blaze.

Firefighters searched the surrounding area and bushes.

Police were also at the scene and the road was closed throughout.

Firefighters left the scene at around 11.15pm.
