Car fire on M4 this morning (Monday)




One lane of the M4 westbound between junctions 13 (Chieveley) and 14 (Hungerford) have re-opened

NEWBURY firefighters were called to a car fire on the M4 this morning (Monday), which forced one lane of the carriageway to close for half an hour.

According to Greenwatch firefighter, Robin Whitman, one engine carrying five firefighters were called at 7.50am to a location just underneath the Irwin Street bridge, between junctions 13 (Chieveley) and 14 (Hungerford) on the westbound carriageway, after a Renault Megane caught fire.

No-one was hurt and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

The fire was extinguished at 7.50am and Highways Agency officers helped to close one lane of the motorway whilst firefighters dealt with the incident.

No other emergency services were in attendance.
