Car safety audit proves successful
West Berkshire and Wokingham Trading Standards worked with a vehicle inspector to visit second hand dealers in the area
A CAR safety audit across West Berkshire and Wokingham has revealed positive results, according to the local trading standards service.
West Berkshire and Wokingham Trading Standards Service worked with a vehicle inspector to visit second hand car dealers in the area to assess the safety of vehicles displayed for sale on forecourts.
A total of 47 vehicles were selected for inspection, with the vehicles inspected for impact damage, tyres, brake discs and pads, driveshaft gaiters, exhaust and chassis.
One vehicle was found to be unsafe due to problems with front brake pads and six advisories were issued, but in general the trading standards service said the cars seen were in good condition.
West Berkshire's executive councillor for public protection, Hilary Cole (Con, Chieveley) said: “Surveys of this nature are designed to provide some reassurance to the buying public and the results of this follow-up were very encouraging.
“It is clear that the traders visited in West Berkshire and Wokingham are generally aware of their important responsibilities to their customers.”
