Car wedged in hedge

Newbury woman astonished to find car stuck in hedge after collision

A Newbury woman did a double take this morning (Wednesday), after hearing a bang and rushing outside to find a car stuck in her hedge.

Jenny Thorn, of Kiln Road, said she went to investigate after hearing the loud noise at around 8.45am, to discover a Renault Clio stuck in her hedge following a minor collision.

“I came out and thought, 'That shouldn't be there,' and then realised a lady was trapped,” said Mrs Thorn.

She added that the female driver, who suffered only minor injuries, was rescued by firefighters after a passer by had alerted emergency services.

“We have had a few bumps on the roundabout before but nothing like this,” said Mrs Thorn, who has lived in Kiln Road for 16 years.

At the scene was Pc Gareth Miles, of Thames Valley Police, who confirmed police were called at around 9am to the two-vehicle collision at the junction of Walton Way and Kiln Road.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries.

“Two vehicles collided at the [mini] roundabout and the Renault Clio went into the hedge,” said Pc Miles, adding an ambulance and fire engine from Newbury also attended the scene.

Afterwards, Thames Valley police spokesman, Leo Tarring, said the other car involved in the collision was a Vauxhall Corsa, and the woman driver of the Renault Clio received whiplash injuries in the collision.

The road reopened at 10.45am.
