Care home plan downsized
Initially, the plans were for a 71-bed facility on the site of Limes Guest House, London Road.
However, this has now been reduced to a 64-bed facility.
The plans have been submitted to West Berkshire Council by Ascot Design and, if approved, the building could be used for people suffering from conditions such as Alzheimer’s.
Residents have claimed that they had not been consulted on the “gross overdevelopment” plans before they were submitted and that a building of that size would dominate the part of London Road between Redfield Court and Fir Tree Lane.
So far, 19 residents have written letters of objection to the council and one has written in support.
Several residents have also submitted a 77 page document against the proposals including case studies from previous similar applications elsewhere in the country and geology surveys.
Now, plans for a smaller unit have been submitted.
A final decision is expected on the plans by West Berkshire Council by May 28.
