Carnival organisers hope for record year

It is hoped the carnival theme for 2011, Going for Gold, will inspire participants and boost visitor numbers

NEWBURY Carnival organisers are hoping this year's summer carnival will break all records, with golden opportunities for entrants.

It's hoped the 2011 carnival's Going for Gold theme will inspire participants and boost visitor numbers, keen to see a glittering array of entrants parade through the town.

Of 15 confirmed entries, the Harley Davidson riders make a welcome return, while other participants include the Icknield Way Morris Men and The Reading Scottish Pipe and Drum Band. Other attractions include the carnival fete, which last year had 100 stalls to browse.

Entries are now needed for the main parade on Sunday July 10. Entry forms are available on the Newbury Carnival website by clicking the link below.

Stewards are also needed and the carnival team will be at the volunteer fair at the Corn Exchange on Saturday (Jan 15) seeking recruits.
