Carnival organisers seek local charity
Newbury Carnival organisers are searching for a local cause to be the nominated charity of this year's event
THE organisers of Newbury Carnival are seeking a local charity to support this year.
The carnival takes place on Sunday, July 10 and with this year's theme of ‘Going for Gold', about 10,000 people are expected to attend the community event with more than 50 parade entries and a huge fete and funfair in Northcroft Park.
The carnival usually raises thousands of pounds for good causes and organisers are now searching for a good local cause to become the official nominated charity for this year's event.
Secretary for Newbury Carnival, Jacquie Cooper, said: “The charity would need to have an entry in the carnival parade - either a lorry float or a walking entry - and can collect money in buckets from the thousands of people that line the route, as well as receiving a donation from carnival funds.
“As well as great fun, this is a great way of raising your profile within the community.”
Interested organisations should send brief details of who they are, the cause and how they think they can help make Newbury Carnival 2011 another successful event.
Details should be sent by Friday, May 6 via email to: newburycarnival@gmail.com or by post to: Newbury Carnival 2011, 40 Mayfair Drive, Newbury, RG14 6EE.
