Carnival reaches for the sky
The flight will see the Second World War aircraft, a Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane and Avro Lancaster bomber, soar over the parade as it travels down Northbrook Street before finishing in Victoria Park where a fete and funfair will entertain the crowds.
Press and Promotion committee member, Tom Satterthwaite, is thrilled the BBMF would be featuring. “I think they will look fantastic as they pass over the centre of Newbury for everyone to see – but what I’m really really looking forward to is the sound.
"Six engines of a kind you don’t get any more roaring over Newbury will be a truly memorable experience,” he said.
The theme for this year’s carnival is ‘travels in time: past, present and future’, which organisers say is sparking imaginations as there are 28 confirmed entries for this year’s event - four more than this time in the run up to the 2011 carnival.
There was further good news for carnival organisers as £300 was raised at coffee morning held on Saturday, along with support from Greenham Common Trusts findmeagrant service.
