Carnival theme announced
Travels in time - past, present and future - should provide entrants with plenty of opportunities to ignite their imagination.
Chair of the Newbury Carnival 2013 committee, Bryan Harper, said: “We hope this theme will give people a chance to come up with some imaginative entries.
“It can even include time travel so we’re expecting a few people dressed as Doctor Who.”
The 2011 theme of ‘Going for Gold’ as a reference to London 2012 saw over 65 entries watched by thousands lining the streets and organisers are hoping to exceed these figures.
Mr Harper said: “The carnival is for everyone and it brings a sense of community. In these hard times it gives people something to celebrate and shows all that is good about Newbury.”
There will be no one nominated charity this year as organisers want to encourage more charities to be noticed.
Mr Harper said: “We have chosen to adopt a different approach whereby we will not choose one single charity, but will seek to engage with all the charities in a way that will be to their benefit, and seek to promote their individual causes across the community.
“We think this is a fairer approach to the many great causes that engage with the carnival each year.”
The carnival will be held on Sunday 14th July, starting at 2 pm in Pound Street and finishing in Victoria Park where a fete and funfair will entertain the crowds.
