Cash and jewellery stolen from elderly couple in distraction burglary
At about 11am on Monday, April 22 a man knocked on the door of a property in Royal Avenue, Calcot.
The elderly occupants opened the door, the man told them he was working on a neighbour’s fence and needed access to their fence and asked them to go with him into their garden.
While they were in the garden with the first man, a second man entered the property through the front door which had been left open and he searched the upstairs bedrooms.
The second man then came to the back door, shouted for the first man and they both left through the front door.
The offenders stole cash and jewellery, including a Rolex watch.
The first offender is described as white, about 5ft, in his forties, of average build.
He was wearing a long-sleeved light blue shirt with a tie, black trousers and glasses.
The second man is described as white, about 5ft 2ins to 5ft 4ins, in his late thirties, of average build and was wearing a black T-shirt, black trousers and black baseball cap.
Designated investigator, Tracy Cole, said: “These offenders deliberately targeted these people because they thought them to be elderly and vulnerable.
“However we would urge people, whatever their age not to allow strangers into their homes and gardens, however plausible their excuses seem to be.
“We would urge anyone who may have seen these men or witnessed this incident to contact us as a matter of urgency.
“We would also ask if anyone is approached by someone selling a Rolex watch also to contact us.”
