Catch the turkey

New commanding officer, Lt Col Richard Blunt recently adorned the turkey costume, before being chased from Curridge Primary School back to the base by a gaggle of comical fancy dress characters, which also included Banana Man and Father Christmas.
Before the chase could commence, each soldier had their costume judged by a scrupulous panel of pupils, with Spr Jack Bearne, known for the day as Freddie Mercury, scooping first prize and a bottle of champagne.
Cpl Jack Fisher Campbell stole the overall Turkey Trot crown this year, reaching the base first and scoring himself a box of chocolates as a result.
This light-hearted event has been running in Hermitage for more than 10 years, originally designed to ensure that soldiers are alert and ready for their journey home for their Christmas annual leave.
Capt Craig Seller, of 42 Engineer Regiment Geographic said: “Lt Col Antony Wilby, previous commanding officer, changed the format three years ago to engage with Curridge School, our nearest local school.
“Many children of service families based in Hermitage attend this and other schools in the local area.
“We try to maintain close links with all the schools as this benefits both them and our families.”
