Catholic Club in shock closure

A statement released said that the club had closed with immediate effect owing to a dramatic fall in use.
It read: “For many years, Thatcham Catholic Club Ltd has provided huge support to the catholic community in Thatcham both financially and as a focal point for parish social life.
"Over the last five years the financial position of the club has been weakened by a dramatic fall in use.
"This has reached the point where the club must cease trading with immediate effect.
"The facilities used by the club belong to the parish, and Father Ignatius together with he Parish Pastoral Council will be exploring how the parish might make best use of these facilities in the future."
Father Ignatius Maddineni from Our Lady of the Assumption in Bath Road said that the club has been in the town for about 50 years and so it was a shock to hear of its closure.
He said: "People had an attachment to the Catholic Club in this community.
"People knew they could always go there but it's no longer going to be there.
"People were surprised and saddened; it is a great place of social interaction."
Directors at the club along with Father Ignatius will now try to see whether there is a way that the club could re-open in some shape or form.
Ideas from members of the public are being encouraged.
Father Ignatius added that in about two weeks time they should have a better idea as to how they would proceed.
