Cats killed by speeding drivers, claims West Berkshire woman

Yvonne Bonney, who lives in Mersey Way, has had her cats killed after being hit by cars in Bowling Green Road in the last few years.
Three of these have been killed since July - one in May, one in July, and one in September.
She said: "I feel that the speed contributed to the loss of my four cats over the last couple of years, of which three have been in the last few months.
"It has been very upsetting and stressful for me and my family.
"To have three of them killed within the space of months is just ridiculous.
"It's our animals but it would be devastating if it was a kid."
The Thatcham resident estimated that some cars were driving along the road, which is half 30mph and half 40mph, sometimes at 60mph.
She said: "The road has been like that for a long time now."
The Mersey Way resident now wants drivers to take note of their speeds and slow down before a child is knocked over.
She said: "I am not the only one who feels strongly about the speeding cars along Bowling Green Road, as my neighbour has also lost her cat.
"We are just fortunate that a child hasn't been run over, it's only a matter of time.
"I often take my daughter swimming to the Regency Park Hotel, and find it very difficult crossing the road due to speeding cars. My friend won't let her son walk to school on his own because of the same reasons.
"There is a police camera van there occasionally, but as soon as drivers see the van they slow down then speed up once they have driven past it.
She said that she thought the idea of chicanes could work along this road as some people would still drive over standard speed humps at high speed.
Ward member for West Berkshire Council and local resident, Keith Woodhams (Lib Dem, Thatcham West), said that he did not want to see anyone injured or killed on the road but said that it was only a matter of time.
He said that a recent approach for a 24 hour speed camera was rejected by West Berkshire Council as it did not meet the criteria - a certain number of injury crashes.
He added: "I was very distressed to hear of the death of the pets from the two households; I know how much the cats meant to the families.
"I have commented over the years that Bowling Green Road is the only east to west road in Thatcham not to have 24 hour speed enforcement.
"There have been a large number of injury crashes in the area.
"I hope and pray that an accident will not be the result of this inaction by West Berkshire Council and that the sad loss of these family pets will be a terrible lesson learnt."
