Cause of Newbury flat fire remains under investigation
Kitchen and flat extensively damaged by fire and smoke
The cause of a Newbury kitchen fire this morning (Wed), which severely damaged the kitchen, remains under investigation.
Two fire engines from Newbury Fire Station were called at 10.45am to a flat at St John's Gardens, off Old Newtown Road, with a third pump called from Hungerford.
On arrival, firefighters found smoke issuing from a window, which was ajar, with all the other windows blackened with smoke.
Firefighters broke down the door to gain entry to the flat, in a forced entry.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze, discovered to be in the kitchen.
No-one was in the property at the time of the fire, with emergency services alerted by concerned neighbours.
No-one was hurt.
The kitchen was extensively damaged by fire, with smoke damage throughout the property, according to firefighters at the scene.
Thames Valley Police (TVP) were also at the scene.
Firefighters remained at the scene today (Wed) awaiting a Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) fire investigation officer, as investigations as to the cause continued.
