Look who we spotted at Coral Gold Cup over the years
It’s that time of year again – racing fans will be heading to Newbury Racecourse for Saturday’s annual Coral Gold Cup.
And there’s always a host of famous faces in the crowd for the popular race day.
The Coral Gold Cup started life as the Hennessy Gold Cup in 1957 – originally held at Cheltenham – and the first edition was won by jockey Gerry Madden on Mandarin for trainer Fulke Walwyn.
The event moved to Newbury Racecourse in 1960 and has been held their ever since.
Since then swathes of celebrities have been spotted enjoying the event.
We delved into our archives to see who has visited Newbury for the Gold Cup in recent years.
Royalty have been avid visitors to the racecourse, with Princess Anne and Queen Camilla both attending in previous years.
Former boxer and current I’m a Celeb contestant Barry McGuigan, as well as athlete Denise Lewis, were among sporting icons to have been seen at the race.
Actor Eddie Redmayne, who is the star of current Sky Atlantic hit Day of the Jackal, and Rob Brydon, star of Gavin and Stacey, which is returning to our screens for a Christmas special this year, have also enjoyed a day at the races in Newbury.
Comedians Jennifer Saunders and Michael McIntyre, DJ Sara Cox and model Jodie Kidd have also been there for the day.
