Thatcham care home celebrates in style with fashion show
Thatcham Court Bupa Care Home held its own fashion show for residents.
The fashion show, themed ‘Around the World,’ aimed to celebrate the diverse cultures represented within the care home, located in Chapel Street.
Staff members enthusiastically participated by wearing their own traditional dress, proudly displaying attire from Nigeria, Zimbabwe, India and Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland.
Home manager Abby Terry said: “Our fashion show was a delightful and memorable day for our residents.
“They genuinely loved seeing the staff dress-up and embrace their culture through fashion.
“The home is buzzing with positive energy and excitement from the event.
“It proved a wonderful way to engage with residents and celebrate the rich diversity in our home.”
Jane Walsh, a resident at the home, added: “We had so much fun watching the fashion show.
“I loved seeing the traditional dress from across the world. It was very entertaining and brought everyone lots of joy.”
Residents also voted for their favourite outfit.
Ola, who was representing Nigeria, was the winner. He wore Adire, an indigo dyed cloth made using a variety of resist dying techniques.

Lijo, representing India wearing Iro and Buba; Siji, representing India wearing a Saree; Rosie, also representing India wearing a dark blue Indian style lace jumpsuit; Becky, representing England with her football attire and flag; Esther, representing Zimbabwe wearing original Zimbabwe tribe Masvingo Angara; Nita, representing Nigeria wearing a Nigerian Boubou Ankara dress; Fran, also representing Nigeria wearing Iro Anboba; Tanaka, representing South Africa wearing traditional attire; Dee and Busi, also representing South Africa and both wearing African print dresses; Rosemary, representing India wearing Chudidhar; and Ivy, representing Swaizland wearing a traditional wrap dress and Ehear wrap.
