No explanation was given for the unexpected decision and Mrs Dickins’ biographical details remained under the CEO heading on the charity’s website as this newspaper went to press.

The post of CEO at the charity was created in 2018 when Jed Ramsay was appointed to the role.

At that time, the salary for the full time job was advertised at up to £46,000 per annum.

The charity does not publish individuals’ current salaries but states that no single employee earns more than £60,000.

The current Constable of the Town and Manor, who chairs the board of trustees, and the meetings of every committee, is Julie Lloyd.

When approached by the NWN Ms Lloyd, replied with the following: “I am pleased to provide the following statement in response to your enquiry: Ellie Dickins has tendered her resignation as chief executive officer of the Town and Manor of Hungerford.

“Ellie has been a valued member of the charity team for several years and we are sad to see her leave.

“On behalf of all the trustees, we wish her all the very best for the future.

It is business as usual at Town and Manor and all operational enquiries should be directed to admin@townandmanor.co.uk or to the relevant project lead whose contact details can be found on our directory.”

Mrs Dickins continues to run Ellie Dickins Shoes in the High Street.

Her biography on the charity website states: “As a trustee, Ellie has been both honorary secretary and a member of the fishery committee.

“She was the project manager for the locally-based Green Recovery Fund Sparkling Streams project, in partnership with DeFRA, the Heritage Lottery Fund, the North Wessex Downs AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and other organisations in the Kennet Valley.

“She is also President of the Society of Shoefitters, and a volunteer at Maggie’s and the Leukaemia Support Unit in Oxford.”

Mrs Dickins’ husband, Julian, is still listed as a trustee on the charity’s website.

Mrs Dickins had not commented publicly on her resignation as the NWN went to press.
