Cerebal palsy doesn’t hold aspiring sports journalist Jake Parsons back

Aspiring sports journalist Jake Parsons has cerebral palsy and doesn’t let that get in the way of his dreams.

After finishing education at Kennet School, 17-year-old Jake has spent the summer interviewing the big leagues of darts before he starts at Reading College.

Jake’s first ever interview was with former PDC and current WDF darts player Matthew Edgar, who competed in the PDC for over a decade.

As a big fan of darts, Jake had plenty of informed questions to ask, and Edgar said in the interview that Jake had won him over just by his well-informed introduction.

Jake told newburytoday that his dream person to interview would be “anyone involved in darts or football”, so he is already achieving big dreams.

He said that his family and friends have been very supportive – “I’m not a person to give up easily, though. If someone says to give up, I always want to carry on.”

This explains his self-sufficient approach to his journalism career.

Rather than depending on schooling or contacts, Jake is getting in touch with sports figures through his own efforts, and running his own social media pages to promote the work.

Jake told newburytoday: “I’m inspired at the moment by Dan Dawson, a darts commentator.”

Dawson covers darts on various media channels, including Sky and PDCTV.

Jake’s specialist areas are darts, football and boxing, and his knowledge in these areas has been described by Will Beattie on Facebook as “on a completely different level”.
