Champagne corks popping at Newbury care home opening
One of first residents snips the ribbon
THE Champagne corks were popping at the recent opening of a Newbury care home.
The red carpet was rolled out for the opening of the new Gracewell of Newbury care home, in London Road, by one of its first residents – Burgess Winter.
Greeted with a glass of bubbly, guests, including Newbury mayor, Julian Swift-Hook, were then taken on a guided tour of the state-of-the-art residential care, dementia and nursing home.
Home manager Nicola Humphreys said: “It was amazing to see so many local VIPs and how impressed they were with what we’ve got to offer.
“The excitement of the opening day is just the beginning and I can’t wait to be part of a happy community for a long time to come.”
Facilities are available for nearly 70 people at the new home, which has also created almost 100 jobs.
Staff donned hats and fascinators for the opening party, on a ‘day at the races’ theme – celebrating Newbury’s famous race track.
A brass band played in the courtyard and local schoolchildren performed songs, with a range of activities demonstrated by staff, including a dance, before guests departed with a gift of boxed fudge.
