Champions and Clowns
First on (at 8pm) is Norwegian Daniel Simonsen, who has been rising through the ranks since 2008 when he won the national new act competition So You Think You’re Funny (winning over Seann Walsh, Doc Brown, Daniel Sloss and Sara Pascoe). More recently he has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, on tour with Simon Amstell and every two weeks at the benefits office, Bethnal Green.
Here he will be previewing his new Edinburgh show Champions, which will be full of his trademark off beat one liners, some off the wall stories and possibly even some off colour jokes.
From Los Angeles, Dr Brown follows straight from winning two major awards at this year’s Melbourne Comedy Festival, including Best Comedy Show. DB Magazine (Australia) described it saying: “Mixing the surreal sketches of Monty Python with the unsettling comedy of The League of Gentlemen… This is a must see show”
Channel 4 have picked up on his brand of darkly infectious comedy - In the last few months he has starred in two of their new online pilot shows known as Comedy Blaps showcasing his daft and occasionally menacing character creations.
Real name Phil Burgers, Dr Brown trained at the Trinity College, Connecticut specializing in theatre, before training in Europe at the internationally renowned clown school, Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris. He has been toured throughout the world for the last three years providing outrageous entertainment for audiences, which is soon to include the hopefully hysterical spectators here on the night.
Tickets, priced £9 (£12 for both) are available from The Corn Exchange Box Office on 01635 522733 or online via
