Champions League comes to Kennet school
Top footie tips from FC Porto staff
PUPILS at Kennet School got a touch of the Champions League recently.
The Stoney Lane school’s soccer stars were put through their paces when coaching staff from FC Porto visited.
The pupils were able to ask questions on drills and techniques and then try them out in a mini seven-a-side tournament at the end of the session.
The Kennet pupils taking part were Erin Abraham, Mia Smith, Bethany Chaplin, Ella Atkinson, Caitlin Penny, Sofia Silva, George Cowmeadow, Brandon Pepall-Black, Ethan Walker, Tom Joyce, Kian Alexander-Baker, Theo Penticott-Bowen, Jason Walker, Kienan Ruddock and Scott Flack.
Pupils from Trinity, Park House and St Bartholomew’s schools also took part.
The visit coincided with the Primeira Liga club hosting Chelsea for the second round of the Champions League, which FC Porto won 2-1.
The session was staged by UK sports tour company, inspiresport, which hosted a series of football coaching workshops in Berkshire. The idea behind the roadshow was to demonstrate the level of coaching a group will receive on an inspiresport trip. Teachers who attended the workshops were offered the opportunity to join an inspection visit to Portugal in November.
Inspiresport was founded in 2004 and operates more than 200 school tours a year. It is the only specialist sports travel company to be endorsed by the UK’s leading governing bodies including the England Schools Football Association.
