Change of use proposal for children’s home in Thatcham approved

West Berkshire Council has approved the change of use of a house to a children’s care home in Thatcham.

The proposal, by Amegreen Children’s Services, sought to change a three-bedroom house into a children’s home under the ward of the local authority.

The home is for a maximum of two children for a minimum stay of one year, with one member of staff.

Carers will operate in shifts of a minimum of 24-hours, changing over between 1pm and 2pm each day.

The house vehicle will be parked at the headquarters.

The council approved the proposal on Wednesday, February 3.

The case officer’s report read: “The description of the development confirmed includes specific details of the operation because the LPA consider these factors contribute to the proposal not representing a material change of use.

“The applicant is advised that any changes to the operation from that described may result in the requirement for an application for planning permission.”
