Chaos expected as A34 and M4 see closures and delays this weekend

From 10pm tonight (Friday, November 15) to 6am on Monday (November 18) there will be a full weekend closure of the A34 southbound carriageway from the A4130 Milton Interchange to Junction 13 of the M4.
Long distance motorway traffic will face a 68 mile diversion via the M4, A404(M), A404 and M40.
Non-motorway traffic will be diverted via the A4 and A338. Local access will be maintained to all interchanges during the southbound closure.
To add to the delays, drivers travelling southbound along the A34 this evening (Nov 15) and also along the M4 in both directions over the weekend, will find their journeys severely disrupted, as an abnormal load is transported from Didcot Power Station.
Thames Valley Police is warning drivers that the A34 southbound will be severely disrupted from 7pm on Friday (15/11).
Over the weekend (November 15 to 17), a transformer from the power station is being carried to Avonmouth Docks. It will be carried on a girder trailer with three tractors, two pulling and one pushing.
The convoy, which will take up both lanes of the southbound carriageway, will travel at a maximum of 10mph and will effectively close the southbound A34 from Didcot to the M4 Junction 13 in the section that it is travelling on.
Over the weekend, it will travel along the M4 westbound, also causing delays.
Police are advising motorists to seek alternative routes.
Anyone with any queries is asked to contact Thames Valley Police on the non-emergency telephone number 101 quoting URN 999 12/11/13.
