Charity Christmas lunch needs a chef
Volunteers desperately sought to help prepare Christmas Day lunch for the elderly in Wash Common
ORGANISERS of a charity Christmas lunch for the elderly on Christmas Day in Wash Common are still seeking a chef to oversee an ‘army' of kitchen helpers.
An experienced chef is needed to take the reins and oversee operations and many kitchen volunteers at the Communities Christmas event, at St George's church hall, in Wash Common.
Organised with the help of Churches Together in Newbury, the event caters for some 100 elderly local people, who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.
One of the organisers, Adam Serruya, said the lunch would go ahead anyway, but that they desperately need someone experienced to ensure everything runs smoothly because an army chef who took charge last year, from Denison Barracks, Hermitage, is unavailable this year.
However, no-one has yet stepped forward to fill his shoes and ensure everything is cooked properly.
“We are getting panicky, wondering if we will get anyone,” said Mr Serruya adding that a guest who wrote to him after the event last year said it was the best Christmas they had ever had.
Anyone with the necessary culinary skills willing to take charge in the kitchen at this charity Christmas lunch should contact Adam Serruya on 07738 759846.
