Charity football match organised in memory of murdered Newbury woman

Sons of Sandra Talman raising money for local charity

THE family of a Newbury woman who was murdered in her own home by her husband last year have organised an annual fundraiser to be launched this summer.

Stephen Wallace, and his brothers Nicky and Sam, has arranged a football tournament in memory of Sandra Talman, who was murdered by her husband Nigel in Carnarvon Place in August.

Mr Talman pleaded guilty to her manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

The family described Mrs Talman, who was 62 when she died, as loving, kind and always happy.

Mr Wallace said the charity tournament will raise funds for West Berkshire Cruse Bereavement Care, a cause close to the family as it offers support to relatives following the loss of a loved one.

The charity event will include local teams, including Thatcham Tornadoes, Thatcham Town Harriers and FC Cougars, of which Mr Wallace is the chairman.

It will also include a mini tournament for children aged seven to 10.

Mr Wallace said the family wanted to make the day a community event and will be providing other activities.

The inaugural match, sponsored by Newbury-based companies Ntegra and McArthy MOT Centre, will be held at Thatcham FC on Saturday, May 2.
