Charity open day at Thatcham nursery hailed a success

More than 150 people attended the open day at the Church Gate nursery where they took part in activities such as face-painting, entertainment, a bouncy castle as well as an appearance from Peppa Pig.
The day raised £398.65 with funds still coming in including a donation from Vodafone.
Director of Pegasus Childcare Ltd, which manages the nursery, Nick Houghton, said: "The sun was shining all day and the children enjoyed all of the entertainment on offer."
Community fundraiser at Helen and Douglas House, Janet Carruzzzo, said that she was delighted that the open day was being held on behalf of the charity in their special 30th anniversary year.
She said: "It is 30 years since Helen House opened as the world’s first children’s hospice to care for children and young adults with life shortening conditions in Berkshire and the surrounding counties.
"The money raised at this event will help us provide vital specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, as well as counselling and practical support for the whole family.”
