Home-Start West Berkshire supports families struggling under Cost of Living Crisis

A charity has pledged to help more families struggling with the escalating cost of living.

Home-Start West Berkshire, based at Broadway House in Newbury, is running two projects to guide families across the district through the process of accessing available benefits and support services to cope with rising prices and expenses.

Director, Grace Green, said: “The cost of living crisis is still placing enormous strain on families.

“Every day we are seeing more and more families who just don’t have enough to live on, many of these parents are working parents.

“Our project evaluations show providing practical and emotional support during financial hardship can make a huge difference to families’ ability to cope.”

Volunteers support families in their homes for two to three hours per week to develop their financial literacy.

They also teach families skills to reduce expenses and maximise their resources, such as saving energy and cooking on a budget.

Other support offered by Home-Start includes delivering support groups for isolated families and operating a Baby Bank, providing essential supplies for infants and young children.

Home-Start relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to continue its vital work.
