Charity to make "world of difference" at Newbury Racecourse today (Mon)

The programme, which is now in its third year, gives 500 people the chance to work for a UK charity of their choice for two months whilst being paid by the Vodafone Foundation. Notable guest speakers at the racecourse today include Simon Weston OBE and Lisa Potts GM, both of whom are known in the UK for their incredible bravery and recovery from traumatic ordeals, and for the extensive and inspirational charity work they have undertaken since.
Mr Weston is a former British Army soldier who suffered severe burns during the Falklands War.
Ms Potts is a former nursery teacher who endured severe injuries in 1996 in order to protect her school children from a machete attack.
The racecourse will be holding another charity event next Saturday (March 3), a raceday for the charity Greatwood, which rehabilitates and rehomes former racehorses as well as helping children with special education needs.
