Priors Court charity workers to brave 5k inflatable challenge event
A group of charity workers are taking on an 5k inflatable challenge in aid of the young people they support.
A team of 10 staff at Prior’s Court, both past and present, are participating in the challenge at Newbury Racecourse on September 28.
They hope to collectively raise £500 towards new sensory and functional equipment at the Hermitage-based charity, which supports young people with complex autism.
Learning specialist for sensory and physiotherapy Marta Uscinska said: “Training has been going well and we are all looking forward to reaching our goal of raising £500.
“This new equipment will provide our young people with an additional space both to play in and access sensory stimulation which will enrich their lives.”
The challenge offers between 2.5km and 15km lengths, with 16 obstacles per lap for each individual to overcome.
Wendy Few, team manager in one of centre’s residential homes, is also taking on the 5k to fundraise towards a new Performing Arts Centre with adapted facilities currently be built on-site for young autistic people to access music, dance and drama.
She said: “I am looking forward to taking on this 5k challenge for our young people.
“I have seen the benefits the arts have brought to our young people, so I wanted to contribute to the new arts centre in my own way.
“The arts are such an important tool for expression and for our young people, a lot of whom are non-verbal, being given an outlet to express themselves in new ways is so important.”
