Chieveley GP prescribes herself retirement
Dr Mary Dyson, aged 59 who lives in Cholsey, will retire from the practice on September 30.
She joined the practice in January 1993 as a locum and by 1994 she became a part time partner before taking over from the late Dr Elizabeth Bingham in a full time role in 1996.
Dr Dyson said that she would miss all her patients and the other members of staff when she retired.
Some of her highlights include helping to set up the first out of hours service at the surgery, helping to kept the surgery's website running and being in charge of mental health and family planning.
She said: "I have been here for more than half of my working life.
"Retiring is a bit daunting but I have to go at some time - I'm going to have to get used to it."
In her retirement she hopes to do some voluntary work, do some walking and make use of the tandem bicycle that her and her husband, Philip, share.
She added: "It's going to be a bit strange because I'm always someone who just goes out and does stuff.
"It's time for some younger brains to take over; it's been a demanding but very fulfilling job."
