Chieveley services latest destination for Stroud Green travellers

However, they did not travel far, choosing land at Chieveley services to pitch up over night.
A spokesman from Thames Valley Police, Craig Evry, confirmed that two men with the group, aged 50 and 27, were arrested on Stroud Green last night on suspicion of obtaining services dishonestly. They were later released without charge.
Mr Evry added that the travellers are believed to be leaving Chieveley services this morning and a section 61 order did not have to be issued.
Cars and caravans first parked up at beauty spot Stroud Green late on Tuesday night. It is believed it was the same group who were ordered to move on from land opposite St Gabriel’s School on the A339 on Monday night with a section 61 order.
Whilst efforts have been made by police to move the travellers on, they are powerless in preventing them moving to another site in the Newbury area.
Almost one year ago today a group of travellers set up camp on the Millennium Green in East Ilsley on Monday before being swiftly moved on by Thames Valley Police.
The same group of 24 vehicles and 19 caravans had been moved on from Newbury showground.
