Chieveley's Junior Bake Off winner to appear on Blue Peter

Freya Watson (pictured right), of Chieveley, won the inaugural BBC series Junior Bake Off last year, impressing judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood throughout the competition.
Now the Chieveley Primary School pupil has been invited back to the BBC to appear as a judge on Blue Peter next Thursday (March 15).
The Cold Ash Girl Guide will be judging dishes made by Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood and Junior Bake Off presenter and professional chef Aaron Craze, who have to produce a meal with a low carbon footprint.
Freya, who has been a fan of Blue Peter for years, said: “It’s an interesting programme because you can learn facts and it’s entertaining.
“It’s important where you buy your food from because if you buy tomatoes grown in Spain it costs a lot of money to transport them. Also, if they are grown in colder countries it takes a lot of energy to heat them.
“During filming, Barney went to a local fish market and Aaron went to a local beehive farm to get some honey for his recipe.
“You could tell that Aaron was a professional chef but Barney did very well too.
“I had a lot of fun filming and enjoyed my time with Barney and Aaron.”
Freya is now teaming up with her local bakery, Shepherds Bakery (owner Tony Manley pictured above), High Street, Chieveley, to sell cakes during the Easter period, with profits going to Chieveley Primary School to pay for new kitchen equipment.
Headteacher of Chieveley Primary School, Linda Wood said: “We need a new cooker for cookery lessons so I’m glad Freya has decided to help the school. Hopefully it will help us find another Junior Bake Off champion - we want to keep the trophy at the school.
“We’re really proud Freya has renamed level-headed despite her success.
“I’m immensely jealous of Freya’s Blue Peter badge because I’ve always wanted one.”
Freya’s teacher at the school, Caroline Hayward added: “Freya is a credit to herself, to her family and to Chieveley School. We couldn’t be more proud of her.”
Freya will appear on Blue Peter on CBBC on March 15, at 5.45pm and repeated on Friday, March 16, on BBC1 at 4.30pm.
