Child car seat checks and donkey derby on Sunday 'to-do' list
Children’s car seats can be checked free of charge at Newbury Retail Park between 10am and 3pm today.
West Berkshire Council’s road safety team, staff from Mothercare and the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) will be available, alongside child seat safety specialists, offering free help and expert advice on choosing, fitting and using a child car seat.
For sports fans, Cold Ash challenge Donnington at a 2.30pm cricket match, at Cold Ash recreation ground.
Over the Berkshire/Hampshire border, in Tadley, a donkey derby is back by popular demand at Burnham Copse Primary School, Newchurch Road, starting from 1pm - with seven races planned - and alongside a summer fair, with arena displays, fun fair rides, craft stalls, a raffle and refreshments.
Also in north Hampshire, at Crux Easton, the historic wind engine will be open to the public, from 11am to 4pm, adults £4, senior/student £3, family £10.
Over in Theale, at St. Luke’s Church, Englefield Road, balloons containing messages of God’s love will be released at 4.30pm - with prizes for both the writer of the message/recipient of the balloon which flies the furthest.
Music lovers can enjoy a treat at Kennet School, Thatcham, where Kennet Opera and Newbury Symphony Orchestra will provide a 5.30pm concert of best-loved operatic music. Tickets on the door adults £12, concessions £10, under 18’s £3, including after show refreshments.
More toe-tappers can be found at a fundraising Jazz in June event at 5pm at Pigeon House Garden, Eastbury, in aid of St James the Greater Eastbury Church - with licensed bar and award-winning chef, Graham White’s Eastbury street food available, games and competitions. Cost £15 adult, £35 family (two adults & two children) including glass of alcoholic, or soft drink.
For admirers of the great outdoors, a wild flower identification walk, along chalk grassland on Bockhampton Down, is taking place at the Sheepdrove Eco-centre.
