Children enjoy their own 'wedding'
Pupils from Hampstead Norreys and The Willows celebrated their friendship at a church service
HUNDREDS of West Berkshire children have prepared for the royal wedding by having a ‘wedding' of their own.
Pupils at Hampstead Norreys Primary School and The Willows Primary School joined together at St Mary's Church in Hampstead Norreys this morning to celebrate their friendship in a special service led by the Rev. Tony Lynn.
Two Year 6 pupils, Yasmine and Matthew, played the roles of bride and bridegroom, while other children took on the roles of parents, ushers, bridesmaids and best man, with staff, other pupils and locals from within the community making up a congregation of about 200, each of whom received a friendship bracelet made by the children themselves.
The executive headteacher of the two schools, Alex Butler, said the whole occasion fitted in with the feel good factor of tomorrow's royal wedding.
She said: “The children have really enjoyed it. They have dressed up and made memorabilia, bunting and hats and we will all enjoy a wedding breakfast back at the school.
“The children have really got into it, they are really taking it seriously and hopefully it will be a day that they will remember.”
The bridal party and the happy friends were brought to and from the church in a horse and carriage provided by Celebration Carriages and owner, Clive Collins said the occasion was great for all the children involved.
The Willows School also enjoyed a street party and carnival procession along The Nightingales and to see footage from the event, log back on tomorrow morning to Newburytoday.co.uk
