Children to display posters to help save toads
Pupils at Enborne Primary School are warning motorists to beware of toads on the road near the school
BEWARE of toads on the road, came the warning from Enborne Primary School pupils.
Following a competition amongst the children, to produce posters to highlight toads crossing the road near to the school as they hop to and from a local pond, the winning signs are now ready to be displayed in the village.
The winners were announced on Friday, February 19 and the posters have been enlarged; they will be displayed in the Church Lane area.
During the announcement, the winning pupils received prizes and a toad cake was brought in by a local baker.
The pupils had been asked to make posters after an Enborne resident, Jo Holland, made her concerns known to the parish council.
Mrs Holland said that in the spring, toads were often run over by cars while they were migrating back to where they were spawned.
She said that she wanted to thank Hawkins Bazaar in Basingstoke for providing the prizes, Jewsons of Newbury for providing timber for the posters and the Frog Life charity for their support.
She said: "The posters were gorgeous, absolutely beautiful."
All the posters made by the pupils will be displayed in the Craven Arms pub.
