Children urged to read for rewards
Called 'story lab', the free scheme is aimed at four to 11-year-olds and is being held at West Berkshire libraries.
As part of the scheme, children have to read and rate six books giving them a gold, silver or bronze sticker in their log book.
When all six are done, participants will receive a certificate, a medal, vouchers for a free swim and a free visit to Beale Park in Pangbourne.
West Berkshire Council's executive member for culture, Hilary Cole (Con, Chieveley), said: "This is an excellent scheme because it's a lot of fun for the children, and it is also very beneficial.
"It's widely recognised that children who visit libraries from an early age, have access to a wide range of books and listen to stories and read at home, develop improved literacy skills.
"This remains an important factor in future education and employment."
