Christmas comes to Thatcham
Helped by six-year-old Thomas Read and three-year-old Lizzie Read, he pushed the plunger to switch on the town's eco-friendly solar lights.
Beforehand there was an evening of entertainment with performances from local schools, a panto by KATS, carols with Jamie Read and St Mary's Choir and a performance by Cold Ash Brass.
There were also dozens of stalls on the Broadway hosting fun and games.
After the switch on Mr Cole said: "There was a traditional mix for us of school performances and local groups, providing the focus for the lights.
"The turn out was really good this year.
"Christmas is a time for friends and family but also community.
"I hope that everyone has a wonderful and peaceful New Year."
