Christmas is coming to Highclere Castle
The festive season will kick off at Highclere Castle with three days of Christmas castle tours and shopping at the beginning of December.
On December 5, 6 and 7, the castle and gardens are opening up for visitors to explore, and they will also be able to browse and buy from a selection of hand-picked stall holders inside and outside the marquee.
Highclere Castle’s Christmas theme this year looks to the former Bishops of Winchester who owned Highclere Estate for more than 800 years until it was transformed in the 13th and 14th centuries into a palace.
With this in mind one of the principal colours for this year is the purple, akin to that of the bishop’s robe.
The dining room is adorned with Christmas herbs, a nod to the Monks’ Garden at the castle, and there is also a mock medieval deer park on the grounds.
