Beedon Church 800th anniversary celebrations continue
The celebrations for the 800th anniversary of a village church continued on Saturday morning.
Visitors to St Nicholas Church, Beedon, were greeted with bacon rolls and tea or coffee.
These refreshments were followed by a very informative talk by James Peddle from the Berkshire Archaeology Society.
The talk illustrated the history of Church Medieval Graffiti, with reference to that which exists in Beedon’s church.
Following the talk, there were further refreshments including croissants, tea and coffee and visitors could explore the church’s graffiti for themselves.
Incidentally, the bacon rolls were supplied by the Beedon Breakfast Club, which meets in the village hall at 9am on Saturdays and is free to all parishioners.
The concluding event in the Beedon 800 celebrations will take place on Wednesday, December 6, in the church where a special service commemorating St Nicholas will be held.
St Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, died on December 6, AD343, and was the patron and protector of children and sailors.
Another upcoming event will be on Saturday, December 9, at 3pm.
The Cromwell Singers will be holding a concert in aid of St Nicholas Church at St Mary’s Church, Chieveley, for logistical reasons.
The choir is in the process of distributing more details.
