Church bells to ring out at 6pm to call for urgent action on climate change ahead of COP26

Hundreds of church bells across the country will be ringing out at 6pm tonight, calling for urgent action on climate change on the eve of COP26.

On their website the Oxford diocese urges bellringers to spread the word on social media.

Ring Out for COP26

“Listen out if you are near a church on Saturday 30 October 6-6.30pm – we’ve heard quite a few churches are planning to ring, including Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford. This is the eve of COP26 and all dioceses were invited to let the church bells be a voice for climate justice as one more way to show public support for leaders making the meaningful commitments at COP26. If ringing, do also use your social media to let local people know why they are hearing the bells on a Saturday evening!”

World leaders are gathering for Cop26, the UN climate change conference which opens in Glasgow tomorrow and runs until November 12

All the Church of England cathedrals that are able to have confirmed they will ring their bells for 30 minutes from 6pm.

Let us know @newburytoday if your church is ringing out for COP26.
