Defibrillator missing since New Year's Day in Upper Basildon

A defibrillator is currently missing in Upper Basildon.

The device — one of only two serving the parish — went missing from St Stephen's Church in Upper Basildon on New Year's Day.

"We received a report that a defibrillator may have been stolen," said a Thames Valley Police spokesperson.

"This investigation is due to be filed as there do not appear to be any witnesses to the theft."

But church warden Jo Eley said: "We know the ambulance was called somewhere in the village. We're trying to determine whether in advance of the ambulance arriving, somebody came to use the defibrillator."

Though, it is possible the ambulance service removed the device, she added.

"Often when an ambulance has dealt with a person, they take the defibrillator away and eventually it will be repatriated," added Ms Eley.

She further explained how expensive they are — with some brands costing anywhere up to £2,500 — and that the church would have to fundraise again to replace this.

With the current delays confronting the NHS, communication has not been forthcoming claims the church. Moreover, if the ambulance service has the device, its repatriation may take longer than expected under normal circumstances.

The police added: "We would ask anyone who may have any further information to please call 101, quoting reference 43230001122."
