Panto is back in Newbury as cast and crew test negative for Covid

Newbury Corn Exchange pantomime is back in full swing today (Tuesday) following the cancellation of shows at the weekend. Cast and crew test negative for Covid.

Following the identification of a positive case of Covid-19 in someone who had had close contact with the Corn Exchange pantomime company, the venue was forced to cancel four performances of Cinderella over the weekend.

Corn Exchange director Katy Griffiths said: "We know this was disappointing news for the families who had been looking forward to seeing the show, particularly as it came to light shortly before our matinee performance and we had to respond quickly.

"As is the case for many theatres across the country, the fast spread of the Omicron variant presents challenges for us and over the course of the three week run so far the team has been doing everything it can to keep the show on, including having people to cover both onstage and backstage roles.

"A cancellation is always the last resort for us but we are hoping to be able to resume performances as soon as we have confirmation of negative test results for the rest of the Cinderella company and our front of house team will be in touch with those who have booked tickets."

Today's performances of Robin Hood at the Oxford Playhouse (Tuesday, December 21, 11am and 4pm) have been cancelled due to a positive Covid case within the company.
