Clarks' Newbury branch to relocate

The shoe shop has been in the town for about 25 years

THE Newbury branch of Clarks is to relocate, but shoppers won't have far to go for their shoes as the store is only moving across the road.

Clarks is currently situated at 103 Northbrook Street and has been a fixture in the town for around 25 years.

Come March, the branch will relocate across the road.

Manager of the Northbrook Street branch of Clarks, Olga Presland, said the firm is working towards an official opening of the new store on March 3.

“Clarks has been an integral part of town centre life for a quarter of a century. Now, like Newbury itself, we are improving, and re-locating just over the road to a modern, fresh and bigger building. The new, more customer friendly store, is next to the Costa coffee outlet.

“For almost 200 years Clarks has played a very important part in people's lives from first shoes for babies to fashionable styles for the younger generation through to comfort for the older customer,” she added.

Clarks, founded in 1825 and the 33rd largest private company in the UK, used to have a second outlet in Newbury in the Kennet Shopping centre but that store closed in 1992 after only six years in business.

Mothercare at Newbury Retail Park is also home to a Clarks branch, although it only sells children's footwear.
